In 1688, the hermitage of Fornols appears under the name Hermita de Sant Christofol de Furnols. It was home to various hermits before facing the wrath of the French Revolution. In 1790, anti-clerical laws led to the suppression of all religious buildings that were not parish churches. Fornols was ordered to close.
