Regarding

The notion of "classified site" was born in 1906. The classification of the Abbey of Saint-Martin du Canigou intervened in 1927. Subsequently, the landscape is gradually imposed as representative element of the heritage to lead to the classification of the summit Canigó in 1951. The site's policy then moves towards the classification of landscape having an overall consistency and coherence. Thus, in 1983, the Canigó Massif obtained its classified site perimeter extending over 7,788.99 hectares. Today, the State services (DREAL) and the mixed syndicate have finalized the extension project of the classified site which, by decree of August 22, 2013, reaches 23,212 hectares and integrates in particular the three reserves of Py, Mantet and Prats de Mollo La Preste.
