Regarding

The Viscount's castle at Castelnou was built between 988 and 990 to serve as the military and administrative capital of the Viscounty of Vallespir. It remains one of the oldest surviving examples of a medieval fortress in the Pyrénées-Orientales. The vaulted rooms and palatial halls are also permanent exhibition spaces retracing the history of the castle: armour, weapons, figures, illuminations, etc. From the top of the terraces, you can enjoy a unique panoramic view all the way to the sea, and in the park, a Mediterranean botanical trail. The Parc Méditerranéen du Château de Castelnou features many species from the south: botanical trail, north and west terraces of the park.
