Regarding
The church of Sainte Marie de Baixas, rebuilt in the 12th century, was considerably enlarged in the 14th century and again in the 17th century. At that time, an altarpiece was added to the high altar, 17 metres high and 12 metres wide, making it one of the largest high altars in France. The Baroque altarpiece was made of wood by Lluis Generes between 1671 and 1674, and then painted. The current gilding was not applied until later, in 1701. Lecterns are available to explain the chapels and the high altar, which, like the church as a whole, is listed as a historic monument. The visit can therefore be undertaken independently.
