The Dominicans settled in Saint-Jacques in 1240 in a perimeter district, outside the first enclosure. The large Gothic church covered in frame, one of the two cloisters and the chapter chapel have come down to us fairly well preserved, despite devastating fires and a long occupation by the Army before the French Revolution.
Paradoxically, the military occupation has preserved this remarkable ensemble, the only one of the four convents of the mendicant orders that has come down to us. The church, which became the property of the city, was restored in the 1980s.
