Regarding
The church of Saint-Jean l'Evangéliste in Saint-Jean-Lasseille is one of the oldest in the département. Dating from the early 9th century, this pre-Romanesque religious building takes us back to the time of the Carolingian Empire.
As the Frankish armies finally drove the Umayyads from the Caliphate of Cordoba out of Roussillon, Benedictine monks built abbeys and chapels in the county to establish Christianity on a long-term basis and encourage the demographic and economic development of the area.
Built by the Benedictine monks of Saint-Génis-des-Fontaines, the church of Saint-Jean-Lasseille is part of this history.
