TRENCA ROCKS EXHIBITION
Regarding
To mark the launch of the summer season at the Château de Castelnou on Saturday 19 April, you can discover sculptures and installations by the artist Trenca Rocs.
On view until 02 November!
Trenca rocs: "Starting from the principle that the Great Artist is nature herself, I humbly add my grain of salt to bend her laws and add a touch of improbability to her work.
Ecosculptures and land art are the fruit of the same process, one in the studio, the other in nature. In both cases I try to reveal the poetic soul of a granite pebble or an olive branch.
Working as close as I can to nature and my roots, it's obvious to me that my approach has a strong Catalan flavour.
For the ecosculptures, the materials come from a nearby environment and are often left in their raw state, or just sanded in the case of wood.
This approach leaves little room for premeditation. Inspiration comes from the shape and appearance of a pebble or a root, often in the field, on the banks of the Tech or on the crests of the Albères.
Then, in the workshop, I have to find ways of putting the ideas from the field into practice.
For land art, as I wander through the countryside, I have to find, without really looking for them, the place, the light and the elements that will combine to create an ephemeral work, in communion with nature.
It's all about balance and therefore, a priori, harmony. Then I leave it to nature to decide how long the installation will last. The only trace that will remain, in time, will be a photograph of the structure in its environment.
As far as the installations are concerned, they can be anything I can think of, while maintaining a close relationship with nature. Installations, totems, garden sculptures and so many other things I haven't even imagined yet.Trenca rocs lives and works in Fillols.
