Regarding

FORT SAINT ELME IS CLOSED FOR WORKS

It is closed to visitors and can only be seen from the outside.

The origins of the fort date back to the 8th century. A tower was built on the hill overlooking the bays of Collioure and Port-Vendres.
In the 16th century, on the orders of Emperor Charles V, a six-pointed star-shaped fort was built around it.
This type of architecture prefigured that of Vauban. It is also an exceptional vantage point overlooking the entire Côte Vermeille.
