Regarding

FORT SAINT ELME IS CLOSED FOR WORKS

It is closed to visitors, visible only from the outside.

The origins of the fort date from the 8th century. A tower is built on the hill overlooking the bays of Collioure and Port-Vendres.
In the 16th century by order of Emperor Charles V a six-pointed star fort was built around it.
This type of architecture prefigures that of Vauban. It is also an exceptional point of view on the whole Côte Vermeille.
