A Catalan tradition dating back to the Middle Ages, the Goigs dels Ous celebrate Easter with song, music and conviviality. In the past, the singers travelled through the villages in exchange for farm produce to prepare the Easter omelette.
For the past 3 years, the APCM, La Llevantina, the pupils of the Catalan language course and the town of Canet-en-Roussillon have been reviving this tradition in the heart of Canet-Village.
Singers in traditional costume, accompanied by musicians, will wander through the old village to collect eggs, cold meats and other delicacies.
The procession will end in Place Saint-Jacques with the cistella being lowered from the balcony of the Town Hall.
Programme
2.30pm: Dances by the gegants and caps grossos
3.00 pm: Singing parade through the village
4.30pm: Descent of the cistella
5.00 pm: Singing, sardanas and tasting of Muscat and Catalan sweets
