‘Who does not forget the age-old, sacred value of the written word: to ensure that lives are saved from oblivion because they have been told. ’ Thus, *Le Chant des sept tours* is an offering to the forgotten, the swallowed up, those who are nothing – the anonymous victims of human cruelty.
Steeped in strength and anger, this poem evokes a past that seems distant: that of the slave trade. This industrial-scale trafficking in human beings plays a fundamental role in today’s forms of oppression and inhumanity, and whilst slavery has been officially abolished throughout the world, a modern form of slavery persists despite the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. *Le Chant des sept tours* takes us back to the roots of evil.

This production is a truly immersive experience in which the actor addresses a ‘you’ who, starting out as a spectator, soon finds themselves at the heart of the story. It is this experience that Opéra Théâtre Volubilis has sought to bring to life through words and music.
