THE FOOTHILLS OF THE CANIGO - THE ROPIDERA LOOP

During this loop, climp up through the maquis and walk in the middle of the granite chaos on which many huts and old dry stone terraces bear witness to old pastoral and wine-growing activities. On the way down, after a visit to the village of Montalba-le-Château and before joining Rodès, you will pass by the fortified church of Sant Feliu de les Cases where a high watchtower, erected to monitor the border fixed by the treaty de Corbeil in 1258, is watching you. This loop is part of the Canigó foothills eco-route. As this route is little shaded, we recommend the periods from April to June and from September to November.
