Nestling in the heart of Elne, the Musée Terrus invites you to explore two fascinating worlds.
On the ground floor, the "Birth of a Bishopric" exhibition highlights recently discovered ancient sarcophagi, adding to an exceptional collection. These finely-presented remains offer a fascinating insight into the city's religious and archaeological history.
Upstairs, discover the brand new exhibition devoted to Étienne Terrus (1857-1922), a master watercolourist born in Elne. A close friend of Maillol, Matisse and Derain, he captured the light of Roussillon in his works. Free of any school, and influenced by the Fauves in his latest works, Terrus paints a vibrant and sensitive territory. An essential rediscovery of a major regional artist.
On the 2nd floor, an exhibition dedicated to the Swiss Maternity Hospital in Elne (currently closed for works) will enable you to discover the moving history of this reception centre between 1939 and 1944.
