Regarding
The "Birth of a Bishopric" exhibition on the ground floor and the new scenography of the permanent exhibition of works by Etienne Terrus (1857-1922) on the first floor.
Born in Elne, Terrus was a friend of many artists, including Maillol, Matisse and Derain. An undisputed master of watercolour, he did not belong to any particular school or trend, even though the influence of the Fauves is very clear in his last paintings. He artfully transcribed the landscapes and luminosity of Roussillon.
In addition, discover a unique collection of ancient sarcophagi recently uncovered during excavations to repair the water pipes in the lower town. These sarcophagi, complemented by those previously on display in the cathedral, are skilfully staged to tell the fascinating story of the genesis of a bishopric.
