NOTRE DAME DE LAVAL

Built in the 10th century and remodelled in the 15th century, the parish church, bordered by the cemetery until the 17th century, consists of a single nave ending in a pentagonal choir and a superb portal. Its 14th-century carved stone altarpiece is a unique example of naive art and devotion to the Virgin Mary and Saint Anne. Appreciated by the inhabitants of Fenouillèdes, who came here to seek protection against invasions and epidemics of plague and cholera, it was saved from being sold as national property after the French Revolution.
