The Marine Park of the Gulf of Lion aims to meet three objectives: knowledge of the marine environment, protection of the environment, sustainable development of maritime activities. The territory of the marine natural park covers 4 000 km2 of exclusively marine area, 100 km of coastline covering 12 coastal municipalities: Leucate, Le Barcarès, Torreilles, Sainte-Marie-la-Mer, Canet-en-Roussillon, Saint-Cyprien, Elne, Argeles-sur-Mer, Collioure, Port-Vendres, Banyuls-sur-Mer, Cerbere. The Marine Natural Park of the Gulf of Lion is remarkable for the Mediterranean because of the wide variety of natural habitats that it concentrates.
