Regarding

Created from scratch in the 17th century to protect the new border with Spain on the orders of Louis XIV, the stronghold of Mont-Louis was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Vauban fortifications on 7 July 2008.
A fine example of 17th-century military architecture, the citadel and its convict well are open to visitors on guided tours only. The town and its 18th-century church are open to visitors on self-guided or guided tours. Finally, take a walk around the ramparts to discover its mountain setting.
