Regarding

The priory was founded in 1083 by a community of Augustinian canons at the foot of the Albères mountains. The monks transformed a building dating from Carolingian times into a hospice for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela, and added a church and cloister. They decorated the main apse with sublime frescoes (11th-12th century): the vividness of the colours and the scenes and motifs depicted are quite astonishing.
The canons occupied the priory until the 14th century, when they were secularised. In 1802, the buildings were sold to a farmer for agricultural use. The church became a stable and the hospital room a pigsty. The site was abandoned in 1942 and was soon buried under luxuriant vegetation.
In 1993, Mrs Triadou bought the property and, with the help of around a hundred volunteers, began restoration work. Today, it hosts an annual opera festival featuring both secular and religious songs.
