Mozart's absolute masterpiece
Written in the very last months of his life, the Requiem is unquestionably one of the major works of Western music, a monument that we enjoy listening to again and again, so much so that it conveys all the expressive force of Man facing death, facing God, with the weight of all his misery and, almost paradoxically, the hope of a better world. And while Mozart was still composing and creating The Magic Flute when he fell ill, everything he wrote touches on the sublime, between melodies that always oscillate between gentleness and pain, light and sadness, intimacy and grandiloquence, and mystical lyrics that underline our states of mind as much as what is most deeply buried within us.
A marvellous reflection of a human being facing the end of life and what comes after, the Requiem, magnificently performed by the Orchestre Perpignan Catalogne, the Chorus and Soloists, under the baton of Daniel Tosi, goes far beyond the realm of music to reach universal resonance. It is transformed into an opera of life and death that thrills us both musically and spiritually.
