Regarding
It was on this site that the world's first solar tower power station, Thémis, was built and operated from 1979 to 1986. From the time the experimental power station was shut down until 2004, the site was a study ground for astrophysics researchers interested in gamma cosmic rays.
In 2012, the Département, in partnership with the Region, undertook major restoration work to return the site to its original purpose: the development of technologies for the production of solar energy.
Since 2014, Thémis Solaire Innovation (TSI) has been tasked with:
- creating an R&D - Technological Innovation service offering in the field of solar energy
- setting up training courses, conferences and events on energy
- developing scientific tourism and environmental education
The site is open to the public during school holidays, and by reservation for groups outside these periods.
