Regarding
Thémis Solaire Innovation (TSI) was established as a result of the Pyrénées-Orientales Department’s desire to restore the site to its original purpose: the development of technologies enabling the production of solar energy.
Indeed, it was at this site, situated at an altitude of 1,600 metres, that the world’s first solar tower power station – Thémis – was built and operated between 1979 and 1986.
To showcase its history and raise public awareness of the energy transition and an understanding of solar energy, the site is open to the public during all school holidays and for specific events, or by booking for groups outside these periods.
On the programme: activities (guided tours, Didacsol interactive models), exhibitions (Understanding Energy, History of Solar Energy in the Pyrénées-Orientales, The Three Lives of Thémis, Sun: Myths and Realities), a path to the viewing point with an orientation board, self-guided workshops (Fablab solar constructions, games and colouring)...
