Regarding
In the commune of Corsavy, the Batère tower sits atop a ridge descending from the Canigou (Canigó), 1,450 m above the Roussillon plain. The Batère tower is part of the system of signal towers that functioned as a military communications network throughout the central Middle Ages, from the 11th to the 15th century.
It was built at the end of the period of the kings of Majorca, around 1340, with the aim of strengthening the kingdom's protection against the threat posed by the king of Aragon. Along with the tower at El Far (Tautavel), Batère played a pivotal role in the military information system of the Kingdom of Mallorca and then, after its defeat, in that of Catalonia-Aragon, as a "network node" to which information from the other towers converged, and from which everything was sent to the command point at Castelnou and beyond to Perpignan.
The signs were visual: fires at night and columns of smoke during the day.
