Bouillouses lake, a protected environment

The classified natural site of Bouillouses lake is an invitation to relax and enjoy outdoor activities!

With its wealth of exceptional wildlife, it is the perfect place to take a walk in the fresh air, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

It is also the highest lake accessible by road or chairlift in the entire Pyrenean mountain chain!

Access to the site is, however, restricted and you’ll have to finish the journey on foot or by shuttle bus if you choose to visit in summer.

Stretched out at the foot of the Carlit mountains,  Bouillouses lake is much more than just a pleasant place to walk.

Its waters abound with rainbow trout, enough to bring out the angler in you during the fishing season!

For those who enjoy a sporting challenge, this is also an ideal place for climbers, as well as hikers of all levels!

Follow the trail to the Pic du Carlit, the department’s highest point, for an invigorating walk through magnificent surroundings!

Hesitate no longer, grab a picnic and take the family to the lakeside or into the forest for an excursion surrounded by nature and, in the summer season, fields full of grazing horses and cows.

Keep your eyes open and, if you’re lucky, you’ll spot the Pyrenean chamois, the wild goat that is the emblem of these mountains!
