Aristide Maillol’s hometown
When arriving in Banyuls-sur-Mer, you will discover a beach, a port, vineyards, nested at the bottom of the Pyrénées. You sure will be curious enough to walk through the charming lanes of the « Cap d’Ouna », then go any further to the « Puig del Mas », an ancient Roman oppidum where the village spirit is still perpetuated.
Banyuls-sur-Mer is also the famous sculptor Aristide Maillol’s hometown – a fantastic museum is dedicated to his sculptures – and a place where vineyards extend on more than 6000 kilometres on terraces and low walls. It is in this soil that grow the grapes from which is made the so-called « Banyuls ». Numerous and fantastic pedestrian hikes will allow you to discover the shoreline, as well as the hinterland. Custom-made holidays on the Catalan shoreline!
