The church of the Third Order of Carmelites was built in the 18th century on the initiative of wealthy Illois property owners. It is a homogeneous architectural and iconographic programme, both in terms of the building itself and its decoration. It is affiliated to the Dechal Carmelite order, as evidenced by the statues on the high altar and in the nave. A series of canvases painted by the Guerra studio from 1697 onwards
decorate the walls of the nave, illustrating the main themes of the Counter-Reformation. This ensemble is exceptional in Roussillon for the quality of its work, as this was the most renowned painters' workshop of the Baroque period.
of the Baroque period.
